First Glimpses Of Wii U Smash Bros. Coming To E3 2013

The reveal of Smash Bros arriving on the Wii U back at E3 of 2011 was unexpected, and now, two years later it looks like we will get our first few glimpses of the game. According to Satoru Iwata, the first-ever screenshots will be revealed to us at E3 2013. The development of the game is still going underway with assistance by Namco Bandai, and recently fans were shared a whiteboard concept art.

Masahiro Sakurai revealed in a Nintendo Power interview that the game will not focus on expanding the character roster this time around.  According to his twitter account, announcements for games such as Smash Bros will usually be accompanied with trailers.  The team wants to keep the gamers waiting for E3 though, which is the reasoning for limited announcements of the title since 2011.  They are currently planning to show off both the Wii U and 3DS versions at E3 2013.

You can find a few quotes from Iwata and Sakurai about the development of the game after the jump.

Satoru Iwata:

“Mr Sakurai told us that we have set the timing for the first screens at this year’s E3. Please wait for just a little longer.”

Masahiro Sakurai:

“It isn’t a matter of ‘if the next game has 50 characters, that’ll be enough.”

“There is a certain charm to games that have huge casts of playable characters, but they tend to have issues with game balance and it becomes very difficult to fine-tune each character and have them all feel distinctive.

In terms of quantity, we’ve probably already reached the limit of what’s feasible. I think a change of direction may be what’s needed.”

So far only screens have been confirmed for E3 2013.  As for whether there will be a trailer or an actual playable demo, we can only hope.  It would be great for the title to be able to release for the holidays this year.
