Re: Opinions on 'Abstract' art

There are people in this thread that are talking about two different meanings of abstract art.  One is the Abstract Art movement its rather complicated so I'll let wikipedia explain it.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abstract_art  Drawings that fits into the Abstract Art movement definitely fit into the abstract category on RMD but it isn't all that should be in the category.

The abstract art that belongs in the RMD category is any art form that doesn't try to be completely realistic.  So any drawing that takes an intentional step away from reality fits into the category.  Drawings in the cartoons, fantasy, and both manga categories all technically fit into the abstract category  as well according to this definition.

I know that wasn't completely clear so here are some examples.

This is not Abstract art (as in the art movement), but it is abstract.

This is Abstract as in the movement.

Vector Art and non-objective can fit into the abstract catagory, but that's because it's RMD. I'm talking about in the art community, where there's more than a handful of catagories, abstract is separated into different forms. And what makes you think something with a subject can't also express or convey emotion? You're being too serious about all this...

I understand your point of view now, so thanks. Also, I was mistakin by saying art with subjects can not strike emotion, because they certainly can and do. I guess I am serious about this kinda stuff, it's my passion and it just ticks me off when someone believes a certain art form shouldn't be considered 'art' because they think it's easy and simple to create.

yeah same, it's very annoying if you put lots of work into your art and people say stuff like that.

Re: Opinions on 'Abstract' art

Easy way to tell if you like abstract art or not (if you're musical like me):

If you can think up a song in your head or think of one that you've heard before that goes along with the art piece well, or if you can relate to the art piece and understand symbols and ideas, and really think about it, it's pretty good.

If it's something you can't really think about, then it's not that great.

Really, if you have an open mind, you'll like more art because you can appreciate the hidden details.

Re: Opinions on 'Abstract' art

Abstract....
It's my favorite art. It shows feelings......like, if you were sad, your abstract would probbably be dark or blue. If you were angry, it would probbably be splatters, or dots, or lines. Maybe if you were happy it would be light, colorful, like a rainbow.
Abstract has been around for as long as Earth itself.....well, at least that's what I think ^^
Uhhh....this is a random post....but....I really don't like forums yikes

Re: Opinions on 'Abstract' art

If somebody draws (as you say ... "bad") abstracts, but they really truly enjoy it and try their best, I don't see anything wrong with it. If someone draws (as you say... "Good") abstracts-- well, the same goes as before. There's nothing wrong with this style of art. Now, I know you're just stating an opinion, (as am I...) but in the end, we have no right to judge an art form if it is enjoyed by even just one person.
Manga has been under fire recently, as well. I think the answer to all this "art form criticism" ..is that if we all respect that different people like different art forms and enjoy drawing them or even viewing them, then there would be no problems. Maybe you don't particularly like abstracts and think they are easy, the fact of the matter is- any art form could be drawn easily or hard. I'm sure I could find skillful or effortless looking ("good" or "bad" in your opinion) drawings for every art form. But I have no right to criticize what other people enjoy to draw. smile

Hehe.. my rant is over. ^^; Just an opinion, don't take it personal please. I don't want any enemies on RMD. smile

Anyways, I hope you saw my perspective and thank you for reading.

Abstract? Pfffffft, more like, TROLLstract, amirite?

Come on guys, some people aren't gunna like your art. Some are. You can only make your opinion go so far until it becomes a joke, and you start to repeat yourself. Draw what you want to draw, for you, and not for them.

Abstract is fine. People like it. I like it. Others don't. End.

That isn't the point...I don't really like photorealism hmm But I don't go around insulting it yikes Saying crap like "it takes no skill/talent". That's just rude.

Re: Opinions on 'Abstract' art

I really think that a lot of people think that abstract art is an easy way out of wtv but really ?.. drawn with passion and efforts ?
I dont think so...
and also, I kinda have a thing for vector art but when they call it vector art when there only is a bunch of arrows and rainbow with silouettes and circles and paint splatters, that only copying art works and having no, or not a lot of originality.
BUT again this only applies in some cases. tongue
