Re: THE ARTIST

I was with you up till you had to add Kinkade, not even the inclusion of Carravagio can make that acceptable neutral

For me:
Sculpture: Jean Baptiste-Carpeaux (Ugolino and Sons @ the Met in NYC), Kris Kuksi and a couple of others

Painting: Depends on my mood, generally the work my friends do since their work is along the vein I like (one is a tattooist and his wife does work similar to his style, peas ina pod they are)

Printmaking: Albrect Durer and Dore (Getting a tattoo of one of Durer's woodcuts on my arm hopefully in the next 2-3 months)
as well as several Japanese printmakers.

Ceramics: Silla dynasty Korean ceramics, Japanese Feudal era ceramics and pre-1870 ceramics, Several contemporary potters as well.

Manga: Masamune Shirow

Most disliked/hated "artist" Thomas KinKade, hence my initial comment.

Re: THE ARTIST

Salvador Dali! I did a paper on him in art once. My art teacher suggested I look up his art cause she thought I would like it. She was right! Definatley my kind of art.

Re: THE ARTIST

"forced"
I would like to impart a piece of knowledge about writing and art. Regardless of how terrific you are as an artist, your most important skill will be writing. Without it, your work is just work without any history or meaning behind it. Without those you will have trouble getting into galleries, accepted into high end art schools, etc.
Learn it, love it, writing won't kill you, in the end it will on make you more articulate and expressive about your own work!

Anyone can come up with a good idea, but it takes an artist to use it.

Re: THE ARTIST

This thread is too good to let it die smile

Two of my favorite artists.  They both did a lot of nudes, so I can't post some of their best work, but this gives you an idea:

William-Adolphe Bouguereau

One of the original realist painters:

Louis Icart

He was known for his etchings.
