RMD: What brushes would you like?

One of the most exciting features for the up-coming CanvasDraw tool we are working on is the power of a really awesome brush system. With this new system we can create brushes that will give you some really creative tools at your fingertips.

Here is an idea of some of the interesting things we have been experimenting with:

http://i53.tinypic.com/14ijr54.jpg

What we need from you all is to give us some suggestions of the types of brushes you would love in an art tool. Two ways you can answer this are:

1) Let us know the types of brush effects that would help you draw some amazing things
Examples: I want a brush that looks like wet paint; or I want a brush that looks like sketchy crosshatching; or I want a brush that looks like charcoal; I want a brush that looks like a halftone pattern.

2) Let us know what type of things you want a brush to help you create
Examples: I want a brush to help draw bark on a tree; I want a brush that helps draw fine hair for animals or people; I want a brush that helps draw ripples on water;

Just one final note: We do want our tools to still be about enabling people to create original art. We do not want to create an abstract art tool where the brushes are so automated that you just draw with a brush some funky automatic pattern and you're done - so we be considerate to not create brushes that splatter your canvas with 100 random shapes in one stroke wink

The best way to support our community is to just keep drawing - even if it's for fun and not serious. Another way is by taking time to occasionally rate and comments drawings by new or learning artists.

Re: RMD: What brushes would you like?

The grass/lashes-brush looks great!! :3 All of them do

I would like.. ehh.. The one with the water-ripples and the one with the hair/fur. That would be awesome. If I come up with something myself, I'll tell XD It's early in the morning and I'm not awake enough to think of something.

Re: RMD: What brushes would you like?

I would prefer textures, like the java tool has.

Although the brushes up there look really awesome. I quite like the cloud one (for someone who fails at clouds *flails*), the leaves and the noise brushes... = v =

Anyway, back to the textures. I would like flower textures, erm, kind of like the textures used in the background of this so wickedly awesome drawing:
http://media.animegalleries.net/albums/ … s.jpg?=123
Or the textures used on their clothes:
http://pics.livejournal.com/ringoluvapp … h/s320x240

They're awesome textures D8

And dot/stripe textures, like on java. But make it so you can adjust the size of it. Whether you want big or small dots, etc.

Maybe even more complicated textures:

And I think that's it. I just love textures. Ooh and don't forget this texture:

Re: RMD: What brushes would you like?

A size adjustable square and triangle (like the circle) for the pen tool. And maybe a calligraphy brush.

There is currently a circle and square tool in canvasdraw that are pretty identical to the Flash tool. Click and drag the start and end point to draw these shapes. These are however not brushes, meaning you draw one square at a time the same way you do in Flash. Are you suggesting a brush with squares and triangles so as you draw a series of squares come out one after the other?

This is a feature we will be investigating and hope to implement in the future, however does not really fall into the category of a type of brush - at least not the way our tool is being built. Good suggestion and is something we know people want.

No, I mean instead of it being a circle when using the pen tool it's either a square or triangle. Like having a pen with a square or triangle nib. But that with the scatter tool would be good too.

Re: RMD: What brushes would you like?

i want a brush thatll let you overlay textures, maybe from some texture library on rmd ( i can see it getting abused if you were able to load your own textures)

so itd would say add some texture to dirt or some kinds of cloth... or rocks and skin

OH and one more thing. The ability to skew circles and squares (will there be more shapes?) into different perspectives. ( like a little button after the circle is placed thatll let you bend it diagonally) and maybe even a feature that you can type in the degrees that you're looking at the circle, just so all your ellipses have the same perspective.

edit #2 xD; and also a gradient fill tool

Re: RMD: What brushes would you like?

I would LOVE a tool that would make a certain area of color ripply, like water. The "grass/eyelash" tool is awesome, too, and I like the "noise/texture", because "scattering" is sometimes hard to control.

Overall, the examples you've given look amazing!

Re: RMD: What brushes would you like?

I think a sort of night sky brush would be cool, with like stars and stuff 'xD

And a water ripple brush, definitely, and fine hair too!

The leaves and shrubs brushes and the grass/eyelashes look soo cool!

Re: RMD: What brushes would you like?

noise tool is brilliant o.o..

maybe a tool that scatters small circle in diffeerent sizes, sorta like water droplets. or a brush that gives a splattered paint effect, like when you shake or whip a soaked brush at a canvas? that would be cool :'D

and a rough/stiff brush effect would be very nice also o.o..

thnx fer keeping rmd awzum xDD i mean.. wow this place gets better every day x3

Re: RMD: What brushes would you like?

Something i would totally love would be the texture of spilled paint like when u do a real painting and u grab the paint brush or a toothbrush to create a splattered style.

I breathe you in with smoke in the backyard lights,
we used to laugh until we choked into the wasted nights.
It was the best time of my life, but now I sleep alone,
So darling, don't, don't wake me up, 'cause my thrill is gone.
