Re: internet boyfriend/girlfriend?

The internet is an excellent way of deceiving and assuming a false identity but it also enables you to really be you. It's easier to express yourself under the ever so convenient protection of virtual anonymity.

However, some argue that if you spend time socializing online you've probably got issues that prevent you from developing relationships offline.

We all spend a lot of time communicating in text, does that mean we're just a bounch of frustrated outcasts? Are we more likely not to fit in when it comes to real life interacting? Let's not exagerate. There are risks of course but they're being blowed way out of proportion.

A person who has difficulties communicating offline was probably an introverted person all along. In fact the online activity can be considered beneficial as it allows the person to open up and gain confidence.

Online relationships are ok in my book as long as they're based on honesty and respect. Romantic relationships are more difficult however as you're supposed to live each moment in the absence of the person you love. They are or should be destined to adults, people who can handle the emotional stress without any irreparable trauma. Kids are better off socializing offline.

Re: internet boyfriend/girlfriend?

How would i know that rape isn't funny or that they wouldn't look back on it and laugh?

*finds out where sub and animenewbie lives and pays someone to rape them*
is this funny? When is it crossing the line? Is there even a line to cross anymore?

I've never heard anyone say their mom is going to rape them if they fail a test.

"Bumpz knows how unfunny sexual assault is, trust me." I disagree. Using rape as a joke suggests otherwise. A joke is supposed to make someone laugh.

Re: internet boyfriend/girlfriend?

I'm not about to tell Bumpz's business to anyone without her permission, but BELIEVE me when i say she knows it's not funny in real life.

Have you ever read Nietzsche? If you have, you may recall this one:

"Perhaps I know best why it is man alone who laughs; he alone suffers so deeply that he had to invent laughter."

Some of us cope with trauma and pain through laughter. We make light of a tragedy in order to keep from going mad. In my own life, we use the term rape rather loosely, as in "I'm ttly raping you in this game" or "this math is raping my mind!". It's just part of the counter-culture that is the desensitized youth.

If Bumpz was ACTUALLY raping Yaoi, then no, it wouldn't be very funny at all. But goddamn it, she just said the word. On the internet. Words are words, actions are actions. Keep them separate.

I have long hair. People think I'm high, cause people associate long hair with drug use. I wish long hair was associated with something other than drugs. Something like...Cake! Then people would see a long-haired guy and say: "That guy eats cake!"

Re: internet boyfriend/girlfriend?

Yes, there are things you say and things you do. A person telling another they're gonna blow their brains out isn't the same as the actual action. As outrageous as it sounds, some may find the expression hilarious. It's ok, we're all entitled to an opinion. And on that note I can safely state I find the "rape" expression tasteless.

Re: internet boyfriend/girlfriend?

Haha, I'm actually a social person. At least, I try to be. When I'm in a room of new people(usually cousins I've never met), I can usually break the awkward silence by asking them casual questions. I can't completely disagree on 'escaping reality', but if the person and I are speaking based on truth, then I consider that as reality. Because it is a real person typing up these words and their opinions, likes and dislikes are relayed to me. But people have situations, some use the internet because it's fun, or because they need to and some other reasons. I grew up without going to school, so I could say: The internet is my life.

Why can I say that? Without the internet, I would not have learned to write, spell and facts about life which is something my mother overlooks. (Seeing as I didn't go to school, which is not a choice that I made or had any says in the matter.) It kind of irritates me when a person tells me to: Go out more, get a life. Yes, I could do that, but going to a mall and randomly walking up to people and start talking them is not something I would want to do. Usually people who tell me that have friends due to school, so it's EASIER for them to make friends. Since they see them almost everyday whether they would want to or not.

It's not easy to make friends when you've got no reason to go out, I like walking to the park or biking there for the fresh air and a sketch. But I don't really meet anyone there, sure, small talk happens, but otherwise, nothing.

Also, lol@rape. For me, it is a term usually used when in a game, something or someone takes a second to kill me. Or three-two hits. "He just raped me!". But I stray very far from those: I will stalk you and rape you jokes... it's not really something I'd say anyway. I suppose it's how you say it and how it's viewed to the other person, so maybe if you say it in a obvious joking manner, it's usually alright. Depends on the person methinks.

Sorry for blabbing, like I said before, this is a touchy subject. I was mostly replying to antenean.

Re: internet boyfriend/girlfriend?

My brother has "insta-girlfriends," as he calls them

You know, like instagram. But to me, you shouldn't consider someone your actual girlfriend/boyfriend unless you actually KNOW each other, TRUST eachother, SEE eachother [in person], and have REAL FEELINGS for each other. I would never meet with a person I hardly know over the internet. You could never be too careful. Additionally, I agree with sweetlove on how she says age matters

Don't know if that's the correct response to this post, but yeah =o=

Re: internet boyfriend/girlfriend?

after reading this I was so surprised. Always make sure you at least skype the person first!!!!!!!!! anyone can get a picture and say it's them.
I've had some worrying encounters online so be careful! Especially if you 16 and under. If anyone doesn't believe me watch the movie trust.

Re: internet boyfriend/girlfriend?

uhm...

there were two guys...I never had a relationship with them. They somehow had a relationship with me.
The first one:

After one conversation.
"I love you."

whut

After the third conversation
"Don't tell your friends we're dating."

wat?

The second one
He randomly said that he loved me after two weeks.

"I don't do online bf/gf."

Then he became obsessed with me and he became depressed.
He was annoying like hell, always saying he was depressed. I had no idea what to do with that. I knew why he was depressed and the only way to help him is by sending him pictures of me. "lol, nope. Not gonna happen."

OTL
why do I attract creeps ;A;!?
