I agree that overlapping Opacity would have improved it. The color choices were on the right track =)

it gets more dimensions in. i can see you'r a fan of animé so i advise drawing w line tool on light/skin colour!!!

then add shading to make the piccy look more realistic. don't be tempted to start with details first. try doing a drawing on 4% opacity then keep addn
