This tutorial will show you how I color lineart with the Java Tool.
Step 11)Firstly I upload the .chi file to the category I want(in this case, manga original).
*****
2)I always draw with the floating mode on, and arrange the palettes to the positions I customized them to(like in photoshop). It lets me draw much more easier and efficiently.
Step 23)Ok, the file is loaded, time to start coloring ^_^ I add a new layer under the lineart layer first.
*****
4)I need to see it more clearly, so I zoom in 2x or more to do the coloring.
Step 35)I always love to color the skin first~ ^_^
*****
6)I use the pencil tool to apply base color.
*****
7)After applying the base color, I start shading with the watercolor tool. I use a slightly darker(or you can use a different tone, it depends on your own style) color than the base color to shade.
*****
8)Now add more shade. I use the smudge tool to blend the color if needed. Pay attention to the light source, and the parts that I want to emphasize.
Step 49)Same coloring technique for the hair
Step 510)I play with different opacity/spacing/scattering of the brush to create the effect I want.
Step 611)Hair ornament, kimono, obi and the pattern on the kimono, all done~
Step 712)I love to color the eyes at the end~
*****
13)Character finished(Yay~) ^_^
Step 814)I like to combine all the color layers(except for the lineart) to one layer before working with the background.
*****
15)Add a new layer for the background, and hide all other layers.
Step 916)I think green and blue work nicely with my pinkish character ^_^
*****
17)I use the bucket tool to apply a solid green for the base color, then add another layer for the blue flowers.
*****
18)Copy, paste and duplicate the blue flowers layer, I use grid tool to help me align the pattern.
Step 1019)Double check to see if the color go well together.
Step 1120)Show all layers to see the final result, zoom in and out to check if there're spots mis-colored; and clean the color that bled out of the lineart, etc~
*****
21)Well, everything looks OK~ I guess it's finished~ ^_^
Step 1222)Finished!
There are million ways to color with different styles. This is only a basic guide to show how to color in anime style, I hope it helps for those who love to color but don't know how to start~ ^_^
(Meh... these English explanation is killing me... I hope people understand what I'm saying... ^_^;;;)
