How to draw funky abstract designs with line art

Creating unique drawings and designs with line art.

Step 1

First thing you should do, is make a dark colored background for a pop-out effect. (You dont have to do this- you can choose any colors you want) But I prefer to choose a black background like this one.

Again, you can choose any color you want, but I like to choose bright colors against the dark background like pinks, light blues, light greens, yellows,etc.

Next, create a simple shape such as a square.

 

Step 2

Now, you need to draw your first line inside the square.

Start your line off where the blue dot is in the picture, a little ways down from the top-left corner of the square.

End your line where the green dot is. Again, make it a little ways to the right of the bottom-left corner. (Try to make the distance between the top-left corner and where your line starts, the same as the distance between the bottom-left corner and where your line ends.

 

 

Step 3

Now its for your second line.

Start your line where the blue dot is. Make sure your attaching the beginning of your second line to the end of your first line.

End your second line where the green dot is. And again, end it a little higher than the bottom-right corner. Also, make sure your distances are the same like in the first step.

 

Step 4

Repeat step number three for your third line. (Starting at the blue dot, ending at the green)It should look like this.

Step 5

Then connect the end of your third line, to the beginning of your fist line, making a slightly tilted square iside your origonal one.
(Starting your line at the blue dot, ending at the green)

 

 

Step 6

Repeat steps 2-5, until you have made enough tilted squares to get all the way to the center.
Your square should look like this

Cool, huh?

 

Step 7

Now this is the step which makes your funky unique designs. I made another sqaure, shown in purple.

 

Step 8

Fill it in again, all the way to the middle. If you look at where the two squares meet, it makes a very cool design.
This looks even better with a bunch of these filling up the page. If you see my attached drawing, you can see what it looks like as a finished product.

 

Step 9

Not only can you do squares, but you can do other shapes too. Here, I demonstrated a triangle.

 

Step 10

Get creative with this, and do different colors, like rainbow.

 

Step 11

Heres my finished product for this tutorial. I used both squares and triangles to fill up the page, and used rainbow to make it more colorful. =)
