This tutorial shows how to draw my OC Joey and shows you how I colout skin and Hair and that stuffs.
Step 1Hi! This is anime_554 on...
How to draw my OC Joey (as a girl) (or refer to title)
Being the joker I am I'll get straight to buisness and no funny stuff.
So. First we start with a SKETCH. I find sketching helps SO MUCH. I've actually say I'm a better artist now. I used 3 different colours for the sketch, light blue (body), Medium blue-ish (hair), and dark blue (face)
<--- I apologize for bad quality... TTATT
Step 2So we go over the sketch on the layer above it. I had 12 layers for the sketch I used layer 11. (I decided to draw this drawing in Floating Mode.)
I did the line art over in Black. It's okay if you don't trace it over exactly.
NOTE: TOWARDS THE END I NOTICED I FORGOT THE EYEBROWS AND ADDED THEM. I SAW MY MISTAKE WHEN I WAS ABOUT TO SUBMIT. IT'S OKAY TO FORGET THINGS BUT AS LONG AS YOU ADD THEM IN AFTER IT'S OKAY. HE ALSO HAS NO HANDS. BECAUSE I GAVE HIM UBER LONG SLEEVES. ^^
Step 3So then we delete layer 11 and add a layer under layer 12 and we get layer 13 (wow). So there you see. No eyebrows. P: Oh well. So now that the line art is done... I get really excited because my favourite part is... colouring.
Step 4So I coloured the skin in layer 13. The colour I selected are the colours for the skin.
As you can see on Joey he has a base skin tone and some shanding. I chose a yellowy tone an orange tone and a redish-pink tone. :)
Step 5I used the blend tool. I used the pre-set settings and I changed the size of the rush only. Around the neck I used 10-15 I believe. I know the nose and around the mouth I used size 6. For the forehead I used 48.
Step 6So now add a gray background to make sure no colours are sticking out. And if there are don't worry use the solid erase. :)
(being the perfectionist I am, I used my tablet sensitivity and size 16 and made sure I didn't get the skin that is supposed to be there)
Step 7I added some highlights with a yellow airbrush, and I used the airbrush for the blush and the little shines a long with it. I believe I used size 6.
Step 8I erased some of the skin in layer 13 and in layer 10 I coloured it in white. For the eyes of course.
Step 9I coloured in his eyes with a dark base colour and then I added a pupil highlights and shines. Then I pulled out the lighten tool. I used the pre-set size and I dragged it over the eye.
Step 10So now we go to layer 9. I coloured in the hair. It's okay if there's extra hairs floating around outside of the line art. We'll erase that.
Step 11After I used the dark base colour I added the highlights. For those with mice (or a mouse) You must change to different sizes to achieve this effect (the tablet sensitvity effect) In the hair. =3= Sadly.
Step 12Then I added a fleshy tone in the hair. I used the smudge tool size 6 opacity: 128 And the lighten tool size: 15 and opacity: 32. If there's shiny highlight in the background. Do not fret. ERASE IT.
Step 13So then I coloured the shirt. In orange. I added highlights using a the little scatter selection in the pencil tool. I used two fleshy tones.
For the shading I used two colours that were really similar to brown. I added those and smudged :)
Step 14Oh. Also in the same layer as the shirt I made a hair accesory. I erased a bit of the hair in the layer above the shirt and then I coloured it in the shirt layer..
PANTS:
For the pants I used a blue base tone and darker blue shades for the shading. The I added the shading and blended it. :)
NOTE: in step 13 I said I smudged the brown-ish colours. But I meant BLENDED. Sorry. e3e
Step 15As stupidly (I don't think that's a word) as me I forgot the mouth. So I went back to layer 13 and erased the little section for the mouth. Then I coloured it in and added white highlights to the shirt and pants.
Step 16Now add a colourful background. And you know all true men love pink. ;D Seriously. Ask the guys in my school. O.e
Now the background doesn't have to look like this. I'm actually having a background rut so I played with the textures a bit. ^^
