This tutorial include tips on the use of layers, filters and textures in the Java drawing tool.
Step 1First of all add a layer and fill with background color. I chose black but use whatever color you want to.
Step 2Add a Layer and draw the first part of your design . Be creative!
Step 3Now, go to Layers and click Duplicate. Then go to Filters and flip Horizontally. Go back to filters and merge down. DO NOT merge all layers!
Step 4Again go to Layers and click Duplicate. Then go to Filters and flip Vertical this time. Go back to filters and merge down. Again, DO NOT merge all layers!
Step 5Now repeat steps 2. 3. and 4. Keep going till you get what you are looking for in your design.
Step 6Note:
When Doing a design and if you are limited on space and speed on your computer you can merge all layers if you are satisfied with your design so far. Just do steps 2 through 4 and then merge all layers afterwards.
Step 7OK, I have jumped quite a few steps ahead to the final design. In your design be sure to use some textures ( Found under view, pallets and show textures) and play around with the transparency, opacity, brush sizes and all the controls to get different effects. The scattering tool will scatter your pen and the spacing will cause spaces between your lines. Smoothing adds more controll to the draw but it slows down the draw too.
Opacity on the layers (instead of the pen opacity) will make that layer more faded if needed. Experiment! Hope that this tutorial will be helpful to some of you. Enjoy! :D
