Step 1

Meet my Oc Pearltan!

she is gonna be my sacrifice for this tutorial! :3

Step 2

To start drawing wings first you will need to draw the character with who you will work later.
At least make a sketch of the pose it will be in. I will pick something simple.

Step 3

I added another layer for the guide lines.

1.- spine
2.- shoulder line
3.- where the arm starts
4.- where the neck ends (both sides)

Step 4

This is where the wings will start.

Wings are not flat. They are made of bone, flesh and feathers so they cant be flat.

(they can be flat only if they are made from paper or any other material like that.)

Step 5

A regular wing is made like this

1.- the part that is attached to the body
2.- the place that can be moved.

Step 6

A bat kind of wind is similar but not the same.

It has more bones and doesnt have feathers so it is a bit flatter.

Step 7

I will talk more about regular wings.

Next! placement of the feathers-

pink- short (shortest) feathers
purple- middle (a bit longer than the short ones)
blue- long (longest) feathers

Step 8

In this picture I can show you what direction the feathers should be facing.

(Colors are the same as above)

Step 9

This is pretty much how the regular feathers look like.

Long > middle > short

Now then... since we are done with the basic wings.. lets get back to drawing! :)

Step 10

It doesnt matter if the wings are in different poses. Just make sure that they are about the same length.

Step 11

form of the wings and feather placement done.

Step 12

It is much easier if you start drawing the small feathers first.

you dont have to make them everywhere. Just a few here and there will look nice! ^^

Step 13

when done with the small feathers move on to the middle ones.

I used the Pen tool with size 2, opacity 70, color 25% and smoothing 40% (because I dont have a tablet) for drawing the wings. :3

Step 14

The wings will look really nice if you make the big feathers very carefully.

for this I used the curve tool to make them look smother.

Step 15

this is how the right wing looks when it is finished. :)

Now just do the same thing with the other wing! ^^

Step 16

How you finish them is up to you! :)

If you want you can just duplicate and flip the first wing, but If you want you can draw the other one.

I duplicated them.

Step 17

the very last thing you must do is make the places where the wings exit the body.

Left= WRONG! Right= RIGHT!

Step 18
