How to draw water droplets

How to draw simple water droplets using the RMD Tool.

Step 1

First, draw the surface that your water droplet(s) will be sitting on. In this tutorial I will be adding water droplets to this pear.

 

Step 2

Using the pencil tool on thinnest and with transparency, draw the outline of where your water droplet will be.

 

 

Step 3

Think about where the light source is coming from in your picture. Using black with transparency, create a shadow on the surface from the water droplet, and also inside the water droplet as shown.

 

Step 4

Using white with transparency, add a small specular highlight where the light hits the droplet and softer highlight as shown - and there you have it! Remember that your water droplet may reflect it's surroundings.

 

Step 5

Remember to make your water droplets different sizes. They may even run into one another.
