Step 1

Hey everyone ^^ This step by step tut is 4 all of you who wondered who kangot and I did the edward elric drawing. (please follow the link above)
•Okay, so Kangot did a wonderful job on the lineart. She used a ref and did a wonerful job. ^_^
•I put a base coat of skin, then added highlights and shades according to the ref.
Lots of time was taken in this step. ^^ Moving on...

Step 2

•Additional highlights and touchups were added. (more detail in the chest)

Next step... ^^

Step 3

•A new layer was added, and the base coat for the automail was chosen. ^^
•I chose a more blue for the base because I wanted a metallic look. ^^

Next...

Step 4

•Again, according to the reference picture, a fair amount of shodows was added. ^^

Got it so far?

By this time, there are around 6 layers. ^^

Continuing...

Step 5

•Okay, so... the main highlights were now added, along with more shadows and detail.

Looking good yet? :D

Step 6

•Lots more of shiny spots were added, mainly with the dodge (lightening)tool.

•The base coat of the pants was then added.

Lookin more realistic now...

Step 7

•I turned the layer transparency down so I could see the lineart, and filled in some areas with a navy blue colour.

Next step...

Step 8

• The dodge tool was used again to make the blue spots more blue. ^^

•The key chain was coloured, and highlighted with pencil and airbrush. Shiny...

Step 9

•The belt was now coloured by adding a base colour of dark brown.

•A highlight was added to make it look more real. Shading was also added a little. ^_~

Step 10

•I restored the pants layer to 100% transparency so you get teh full dramatic effect. ^D^

•The cloak was coloured with a base of red, then I used the dodge and burn tools to add to the realism. ^^

Next...

Step 11

• More highlights were added to the cloak with the airbrush and a lighter colour.

•The automail arm was re-touched up, and finished. ^W^

Now we're getting somewhere...

Step 12

•The eyes and the hair were then coloured, however I will not go into much detail, because this tutorial would be even longer! =_=... :P

•The background was subtly coloured, but not too busy or bright, 'cuz the focus iz on Ed.

Step 13

*sparkle sparkle*
Ooohhhh.....

Doesn't Ed look great?
