How to draw manga (especially shoujo manga) faces

My way to sketch a girl in shoujo manga style.

Step 1

Firstly, draw a circle (you don't need to be very accurate)

 

Step 2

Begin to shape the lower part of the head, starting from the circle. You can shape it round, thin, big, depends on your style, your character's look and age.

 

 

Step 3

Add two indicative lines on your face: the first one (the longest in my image) has to cut the face in the middle (always trace it from the chin). The other one will be placed more or less above the cheeks (see my blue arrows).

 

Step 4

Use the lines to help yourself placing the details. Place the nose and the mouth on the vertical line and the eyes and the ears on the horizontal one. The ears should be a little lower than the eyes. Don't forget the eyebrows above them.

 

Step 5

Clean the face by erasing the guide lines and draw hair using the higher part of the initial circle.

 

 

Step 6

Erase the last traces of the circle (but NOT the face, obviously) and add the final touches if needed (i filled her eyes, added a rebel hair, etc.).
