Okay, have you seen my portraits and you wonder how i did it? Well I can explain it now for you ^^ Everything i usually do, you will now know it (:
Step 1Okay First you will need a Reference picture :O Make sure you pick a one you really like, or you will feel bored while drawing it (:
Step 2Okay Now that you have your Reference, you need to get ready to start drawing it. For you to be ready you will need to have your reference side by side of your canvas, because of that it will be much easier when drawing the details and all (: Just make the windows small enough to see everything.
Step 3Okay now, lets start doing the Sketchy Lines wich will be just needed to help you know where to put several details and all. Do it by using the Pen tool (size 1, opacity:128) It doesnt need to be perfect, you only need to know where to place colors and details. Do this sketch while looking at the Ref pic. (with the windows still small and side by side).
Step 4Now explaining the layers stuff...You have layer 1...layer 3...layer 2..thats the order. Layer 1 is for the end, its for you to do the background! The Layer 2 is for the sketchy lines wich you have already done. The layer 3 is now for you to color it and detail it. If you want more layers just add more , select layer 1 and click the button +.
Step 5Now that you have your sketchy lines done, you will have to fill the drawing with the right colors in the right place. Its very simple, nothing much perfect, for now. With the Watercolor tool Fill the right places. Remember, do all this while looking at the reference pic. I dont use many layers :O I only use 3(usually) 1 layer(background) 2 layer(sketchy lines) 3 Layer (Coloring and all) *when adding layers do this...You have 1 layer, add a second layer, do the sketchy lines, then add a 3rd layer UNDER the 2nd layer, so that it wont clear the sketchy lines*
Step 6Now after filling the right places with the right colors, you will need to clear the sketchy lines on the Layer 2(it wont affect your layer 3). Now you just need to work on the details :O I use mostly the pencil tool (Size 1 for little details and opacity: 94 ..Sizes differs on the details and all). Do all of this while Looking at the reference pic, Side by Side.
Step 7For Details Zoom Both images (your drawing and the Ref) See how it helps a lot when drawing certain things ^^ Remember, i use Pencil tool to make details.
Step 8From now on just keep adding details and details..everything you see on the Reference..Do it all on your drawing ^^ And keep using the pencil tool, its best (at least for me) to make details. (:
Step 9More details XD See, Zooming the reference pic and your drawing helps a lot. Always use the Pencil tool, dont change it, Only change the sizes and Opacitys of course.
Step 10I must say that to do the hands its very easy..No need for sketchy lines, just find the place where the hands need to be and then fill it with just one color.. in this case, soft yellow. Then add the details, shadows, lights, nails, etc.
Step 11Now the final step...Just make more details XDD everything you see :P For the hand on the background, use the airbrush for the base and then use the pencil with really small opacity and do the little details it should have. And thats it (:
Step 12I hope i have helped in some way XDD And sorry if this tutorial is kinda wierd or confuse..its just that..its my first XDD Well now you know whats my dear secret to draw portraits * ^ * And you see, using the java tool can be really cool and easy (: Just try it out ^^ Bbye : D (this last drawing made with Paint.)
