Step 1

First I found the picture I wanted to draw on google.

Step 2

Then I opened the Java tool canvas, put it in floating mode and put the picture next to it to look at.

Step 3

Then I added some of the base color. I always start with eyes in all of my drawings. For me, drawing the eyes first, helps me proportion where everything else will go. And I believe the eyes makes a person come alive.

Step 4

At this stage I start blocking in the base color and laying out the more detailed groundwork so I have everything ready to draw all of the fine details.

Step 5

When I make the kind of rough/soft spotty, real looking skin, I use the airbrush tool, turn up scatter and spacing midway & the opacity midway. I switch brush sizes back and forth, I use the brush on 1 or 2 for this.

Step 6

For Edwards coat, I didn't feel like drawing each little dot in the wool.
So I first put all of the base color (that greenish blue color) and then with the airbrush (on scatter) I covered the coat with the small checks texture.

Step 7

Then I started on Bella. Just like on Edward, I start with her eyes, base color and details. Then I added all of the last fine details to their faces.

Step 8

After everything else is finished,
the hair is the very last thing I do.

Most of Edwards hair in the picture is black so I color that area black. Then I blend the skin into the hair with the lighter hair.

With bellas hair I colored all of the darkest parts, and then the lighter darkest parts. until I got to the lightest colors. I used the smudge tool (brush size 1) to blend the hair. Before doing the smallest finite details.

* I have the hardest time knowing when I'm finished. I have to keep telling myself to STOP!*
