This turtorial describes my method of drawing portraits from photographs.
On the screen, I downsize the internet windows to fit the drawing tool window next to the empty Paint page, into which I will paste the reference photo.
I start out with a solid background color, and then proceed to add the basic outlines of the face and facial features. I always start with coloring the eyes, as they are the focal point of any portrait.
I finish up coloring and shading the eyes and then I move on to defining the eyebrows and the nose. This is when I begin to shade the cheeks.
After adding more detail to the brows, eyes, nose, and lips, I can concentrate more on shading the face as a whole. (Notice the little spots of color in the canvas' lower left corner- that serves as a kind of palette.)
I start drawing and coloring the hair, which is the last step. I hate drawing hair- it's so tricky. All the strands and all...
When the hair is at last finished, I add the final touches of color, sign my username, and (hurray!) post the drawing...
